Classroom Read Alouds

Books that are just plain awesome to read aloud to your class...

Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back

A Night Divided
The One and Only Ivan
Because of Winn-Dixie

This year, we're doing more of a novel study than following the Journeys curriculum to a T. We cover our reading skills and strategies, but also go back and reinforce what we've talked about before. We're also pulling in grammar to our novels. It's amazing when a kid comes up to show you that they found an imperative sentence in their own book. I never want to teach ELA another way!

Because of Winn-Dixie
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
How Tia Lola Came to Stay
Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back

2015/16 read alouds

Other books that I've read to my classes:
The Alchemyst, Michael Scott
Janitors, Tyler Whitesides
The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Dark is Rising, Susan Cooper

Clementine, Sara Pennypacker
Fablehaven, Brandon Mull
The Lightning Thief, Rick Riordan
Pippi Longstocking, Astrid Lindgren
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis
